Why Build A Custom Home?

Have you ever thought about building your dream home? Of course you have! It’s fun to do and it’s great to have a goal to work toward. So what would you say if we told you that you could make your dream a reality? It’s easier than you may think! But if you’re still on the fence about building a custom home — we’ve all heard about home building nightmares after all — then maybe we can help.

So why would you choose to build a custom home?

Firstly, let’s address some of the myths.

Myth 1: It’s Too Costly

The right home builders will work within your budget to make things happen. Obviously the unexpected can occur, but when you’re building a home from scratch, it’s less likely. Everything will be meticulously thought out and planned from step one.

Remember, this isn’t a renovation. It’s impossible to run into problems like “you need a new foundation” or “you need a new HVAC system,” because they have never been installed!

Myth 2: It Always Takes Longer Than Expected

This is a very common thing we hear. While it’s true that building a custom home does take time, the right builder will be upfront with you about it. You will be given an estimated timeframe that is realistic to your project and to the known difficulties presented by the land. Things can always happen that delay the project, but the best builders are often the best planners as well.

Long story short, the estimated timeline from a reputable builder can be trusted. They may even surprise you and finish early!

Myth 3: I’ll Have to Compromise

This myth is only true if your budget doesn’t match your expectations. If you work with us, we’ll take you through the entire process, from the first sketch, to choosing tiles, to handing off the keys. We’ll help you decide what is in your budget and will be creative to get you exactly what you want.

That means you should know exactly what you’re getting with us — no compromises, just exceptional communication and creativity.

Now that those myths are out of the way, we’d like to shift the focus to why you should think about building a custom home.

Should I Build a Custom Home?

For starters, a custom home will save you money in the long run. You won’t need any costly renovations or repairs, and you can choose to have energy-saving appliances to reduce your utility bills too. Many things in homes have a 10+ year lifespan, so you won’t need to worry about replacements or big changes for a long time, thus saving your money.

The Latest Technology, Built Right In

We just mentioned this, but it’s so important that we want to say it again. A new home means you’re getting the latest tech immediately. The modern home just isn’t the same without it! While you may opt out of having a refrigerator with a screen, you can choose one with top-tier energy ratings. The same can be said for your laundry machines, coffee maker, oven, gas range, doorbell and more!

This also means you can future-proof your home, so it’s not immediately dated by its tech. A custom home affords you the opportunity to design a living space that fits your needs today, while also taking into account whatever surprises your future might hold. This includes future children, or the need to sell your home, thus saving you in costly upgrades.

Of course, this all means lower monthly bills too. Your washer and dishwasher will use less electricity and less water, your appliances will run more efficiently, and some tech even shows you exactly how much energy it used that month. If you’re worried about heating and cool, smart thermostats allow you to adjust the heat from your phone. Some can even detect uneven heating in rooms and remedy it!

You Choose Everything in a Custom Home

Everything, and we mean everything, is your choice (as long as it’s in your budget). You want granite counters, you can get them. You want a large vanity and mirror? You got it. You want a kitchen island? No problem.

That’s what a custom home is — it’s customized to meet your needs and your wants. You can choose everything. Some builders and contractors only work with specific brands, however, so you’re going to want to vet them appropriately before you agree to work with them. This leads to our final point...

Opportunity To Choose Your Builder

When you’re building a custom home, it’s of the utmost importance that you choose the right builder for your project.

Choose a company who works with high-quality materials and has a lot of experience building the style of house you want. Remember, it’s your dream home. You deserve to love it. That means you shouldn’t settle for the first builder that comes up on Google. So to pick the right company, you should do your research and find the answers to the following questions:

  • How long have they been working in the area?

  • Do they use subcontractors?

    • If so, do they share their subcontractor list

  • What are their Certificates of Liability and/or insurance?

  • How do they schedule payments?

  • Do they work with the brands I want?

  • Can they design the style I want?

  • Can they show you previous homes they’ve built?

When in doubt too, ask for referrals from friends, family, neighbors, or coworkers. And when you have your list narrowed down to a few choices, reach out and give them a call to schedule a consultation about your project. Get to know them and leave no stone unturned.

If you’re interested, you can give us a call too. We’ll be happy to help!
